DISPARVIRUS - For Control of the Gypsy Moth
Lymantria dispar MNPV is a multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (MNPV) preparation for the biological control larvae of the gypsy moth larvae (Lymantria dispar).
Control efforts with Lymantria dispar MNPV are necessary in order to manage the gypsy moth and to protect natural resources as well as forest integrity. The product can be applied by air and as with all baculoviridae, only the target species is affected.
The gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) is present in Europe, North America, Asia and New Zealand.
Damage is caused exclusively by the larvae, which feed on developing leaves of over 300 tree species.
During severe outbreaks, trees and shrubs can be completely defoliated over large areas, causing significant growth loss in forested ecosystems.
The hairy larvae cause contact dermatitis and are allergenic to humans.
